Sweet Memory
V1
I put my perfume all over,
so when I walked in,
you knew I was there.
A fringed leather jacket on,
red lips and back-combed hair.
I wore my come and get me boots -
so you could see me standing at the bar,
pretend I didn't do it for you;
that I only came for the guitars.
Then you put your arms round her,
as you catch my eye,
you have the audacity,
to ask if I'm alright?
Well baby I've been better,
I wont inconvenience you tonight -
I had my heart gift-wrapped for you,
but it's a plight I'm not prepared to fight.
Chorus
I'll be your sweet memory,
the one that drives you mad.
I'll be your sweet memory,
the best thing that you never had.
A sweet memory,
the one that fills you with frustration...
I won't be anybody's obligation.
V2
I get home,
I realise that I'm done.
Now there's a hole to fill -
cause you always were the one.
I wanted more,
the one I adore,
what is it for?
You were never sure.
In my loneliness, a drink I'll pour,
reminisce once more,
before I shut the door.
Chorus
Maybe I'll be a sweet memory,
the one that drives you mad.
Could I be a sweet memory,
the best thing that you never had.
A sweet memory -
the one that fills you with frustration...
I won't be anybody's obligation.
Middle 8
Time goes by, as I ugly cry;
mourning the loss of a love,
who was never my guy.
In floods I start to realise,
that you will never see you,
as I see you;
through the tint in my eyes.
But as the filter comes off,
and the cracks start to show -
I know we'll both be better
if I leave you alone.
This is the last song
that I'll write about you,
I wish you all the best
and hope your dreams come true..
Chorus
And hope that I'm a sweet memory,
the one that drives you mad.
Could I be a sweet memory?
The best thing that you never grasped.
A sweet memory -
the one that fills you with frustration...
I won't be anybody's obligation.
